[color=darkslateblue]then we talked about the tradition here in China vs foreign one. To his judgement, people here treat English as a tool, the tool to get promoted, the tool to learn other stuff , the tool to get a better job. blah blah...but he firmly disagreed "No, English is not a tool! It's rather a culture, u can't treat it as a tool. that u never will learn it well."
[color=darkslateblue]I can't agree with him more. People tend to "prejudge " things , it happens more in China, if you don't get through what's really behind English , u never can comprehend things right. that's we call it" sense".
[color=darkslateblue]He then gave me an example of "flirt". " Flirting is mostly between men and women, they flirt each other then they get to know each other."

[color=darkslateblue]right, but it's more like with derogatory sense in Chinese. and that's one thing i can not agree with him( i didn't say this.) i looked through dictionary, and it is a derogatory word.( of course, my boyfirend would never like if i flirt with other men, vice virsa. ) but can we find a substitute word for "flirt" in Chinese that doesn't mean that bad and has positive meaning? maybe not, we might never obtain it. that's cultural gap that we can never surpass.
[color=darkslateblue]also, the word " disappointment", we Chinese use it way too often than English natives do. i have elaborated this. perhaps we could say" someone / something failed my expectation. It failed me."
